Frequently asked questions

Does Centamo need an account or an internet connection?

No. There is no account, no sign-up and no bank login. Centamo works completely offline and makes no network connections of its own.

Where is my data stored?

Accounts, bookings, budgets, goals and contracts are stored in an encrypted database, receipts in encrypted files on your iPhone. There is no Centamo cloud. The data folder is excluded from iCloud and device backups, so keep a copy with the encrypted backup in Settings → Privacy & Backup.

How do I move my data to a new iPhone?

Create an encrypted backup on the old iPhone, move the file to the new one (for example via AirDrop or the Files app) and choose Restore backup there. A restore replaces all data on the new device.

I forgot my backup password. Can it be recovered?

No. The backup is encrypted with your password, and there is no copy of it anywhere. Without the password the file cannot be opened, not even by Centamo. Create a new backup with a password you keep safe.

How does scanning a receipt work?

Centamo scans the receipt with the iPhone camera and reads the text on your device. Amount, date and merchant are only suggestions, so check them before you save. The scan is stored encrypted with the booking.

Why do my widgets show “Amount hidden”?

Widgets hide amounts by default. Turn off Hide amount in Settings → Widgets to show them. Even then, the Lock Screen shows only a neutral hint while amounts are hidden. If a widget says “Open Centamo”, open the app once so it can show your figures.

How do I protect Centamo with Face ID?

Turn on App lock in Settings → App lock. Centamo then asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode and locks immediately or after 1 or 5 minutes. The privacy cover hides your figures in the app switcher.

How do reminders work?

Reminders are off until you allow them in Settings → Reminders. They are local notifications for fixed costs, notice periods, budgets, payday and savings goals. Their text contains no amounts or names.

What can I export?

Your bookings as CSV, reports as CSV or PDF, and an encrypted backup of everything. CSV and PDF files are not encrypted, so Centamo asks before creating them and you choose where to save them.

How do I delete all my data?

Delete the app. That removes the database and all receipts from your iPhone. Exports and backups you saved elsewhere stay where you put them. Because there is no account, nothing needs to be removed from a server.
